French Toast Casserole

Ingredients:

Casserole:

  • 1 loaf bread (preferably brioche or challah)
  • 8 large eggs
  • 2 cups milk or half & half
  • ¾ cup brown sugar
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • 1 tbsp vanilla extract
  • cinnamon, ginger, clove, nutmeg to taste

Streusel Topping:

  • ½ stick of butter
  • ¼ cup brown sugar
  • ¼ cup all-purpose flour
  • ¼ teaspoon kosher salt
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • ½ teaspoon fresh grated nutmeg
  • ¼ teaspoon ground clove

Directions:

  1. layer slices of bread in a greased 9-x-13-inch baking dish.
  2. In a bowl, add eggs, milk, vanilla, and sugar salt, and spices. Whisk to combine,
  3. Pour contents onto bread.
  4. Cover baking dish and refrigerate for at least 4-12 hours.
  5. In a seperate bowl, add all the “Streusel Topping” contents.
  6. Combine with a pastry blender until uniform texture. Seal in a seperate container and refridgerate alongside soaking bread.
  7. Preheat the oven to 350°F.
  8. Uncover baking dish and sprinkle the topping evenly over bread and custard mixture.
  9. Bake uncovered for 45-60 minutes.
